Major Japanese OEM adopts 130 km/h ADAS testing capability

  • AB Dynamics begins customer deliveries of the GST™ 120 Plus, with the first going to a major Japanese vehicle manufacturer enabling high-speed ADAS testing up to 130 km/h.

  • It is the first in operation with seven more on delivery to customers, including a vehicle manufacturer in the US, a new BEV start-up and a major NCAP test laboratory in China.

  • The GST 120 Plus is the only Euro NCAP-approved ADAS target platform capable of achieving the latest high-speed test scenarios, providing capability to fully test and validate vehicles.

  • The delivery follows the introduction of Euro NCAP’s latest high speed test scenarios adopted as part of the latest 2026 protocols.

Leading automotive test solution supplier AB Dynamics has delivered the first GST™ 120 Plus to a major Japanese vehicle manufacturer. The deployment gives the OEM capability to test and validate its vehicles against the new high-speed scenarios introduced in the latest Euro NCAP protocols.

The deployment is the first of eight GST 120 Plus platforms ordered to date. Additional units are due to enter operation in the short term, including four at vehicle manufacturers and a major NCAP test lab in China.

Euro NCAP’s 2026 update, which was implemented in January, is the most significant change to the ratings scheme since it was introduced. It includes more than 1,200 additional test scenarios and includes new high speed test scenarios, replicating typical motorway and highway conditions where many real-world accidents occur.

“We developed the GST 120 Plus with the Euro NCAP 2026 protocols in mind. The protocols have put real pressure on manufacturers’ test capability, particularly for high-speed scenarios that simply didn’t exist in the previous version of the ratings scheme,” said Dr Andrew Pick, Business Director, Track Test Systems at AB Dynamics. “We believe this is the first ADAS test platform operating at speeds of 130 km/h to enter service with an OEM anywhere in the world. The 2026 protocols have raised the bar for the whole industry, and the early demand we're seeing shows how fast manufacturers are moving to build this high-speed capability.”

Launched in December 2025, the GST 120 Plus is listed by Euro NCAP for approval for use in official tests. It shares the chassis and external dimensions of the GST 120 platform but introduces a 13% increase in battery capacity, the latest brushless motor technology and optimised gearing to deliver the higher test speeds the new protocols demand. Combined with ABS braking on each wheel for improved stability and shorter stopping distances, the upgrades minimise the track length required for testing, which is a key constraint at many proving grounds. The platform reaches the standard 80 km/h test speed in under 130 metres.

To further help OEMs cope with the substantial rise in test scenarios under the 2026 protocols, AB Dynamics has developed a comprehensive library of pre-configured test scenarios within its track test software to automate the process of Euro NCAP ADAS testing. The Euro NCAP 2026 ‘special group’ is pre-installed on the GST 120 Plus, allowing customers to begin running the new high-speed scenarios as soon as the platform enters service.

AB Dynamics provides a complete end-to-end solution for ADAS testing, with a comprehensive range of platforms and targets covering cars, motorcycles, pedestrians and cyclists. The platforms work seamlessly with the company’s driving robots to precisely control the speed and direction of the vehicle under test, while Synchro™ software choreographs the vehicle and targets with centimetre-level accuracy.
